Coffee

There are three different ways that I make coffee, depending on what I want.

If I want decaf, as I often do at night, I use my electric kettle and decaf instant coffee in a cute little metal teapot I got at a thrift store.

If I want ground regular coffee (or something flavored, as we often buy), I use the usual drip coffee pot method - coffee in the filter in the basket, water in the tank, flip the switch.

But most often, and here's where I'm weird, I'll use the drip coffee pot to make instant coffee. I skip the filter and put the instant crystals right in the carafe. The coffee maker heats the water for me and it pours right into the crystals, making a perfect pot of instant coffee. I think I do it this way because I'm lazy, but it's not that much more effort to do it the regular way. Maybe it's just habit by this point, I've done it like this for so long that it's just ingrained in me to do it this way.

No matter what way I make it, the warmth of the coffee always makes me feel good. It can take a bad day and make me feel better. In a world that's increasingly cold, both literally as we head into winter and metaphorically, making a cup of something warm and delicious is a healing moment in my day.
