I Bought a New Phone, Unfortunately
I had an eventful weekend. On Friday night I accidentally dropped my phone in the bathtub. At first it seemed like it would be fine, it was still working as normal, but by Saturday evening it had stopped showing a display completely. I knew I would have to do something Sunday, so in the process of a lot of other activities my partners and I had planned, we made a stop at the Verizon store.
I was very lucky - there was a deal on a brand new Google Pixel 9 Pro that required only an upgrade to my service plan and a small activation fee. So I took advantage of that deal, and now I have a new phone.
Unfortunately that wasn't the end of the story. I was able to get the phone working over wifi, but the actual service did not activate as it should have. Another visit to Verizon on Monday before work informed me that the purchase had been flagged as fraud, and prevented from activating. I spent half an hour on their phone with a tech, who sent me an email to send them pictures of my ID. I was told that I'd receive another email later that day and should be able to activate my eSIM then.
No second email ever came. Back to the Verizon store on Tuesday. This time I spent over 45 minutes there, significantly altering my usual work routine, but in the end they were finally able to get the phone working. The workers were very nice throughout this whole process, and I have no issues with them, but the process itself was very long and stressful. I haven't experienced anxiety in a while, not since I had to get my teeth pulled last year, but I was very anxious about this situation.
Luckily everything got fixed in the end, and hey, I've got a cool new phone! But the process was a nightmare and I would have vastly preferred to just not have dropped my old phone in the tub to begin with.
