Music, To Me

Music has seemingly always been a big part of my life, since before I can remember. Some of my earliest memories include a music box-like toy "record" player playing little kid tunes, and listening to the music from the video games my grandmother played for us.

As I grew up I learned to like different kinds of music - pre-9/11 country, mid-90s power metal, 00s rock music. I had a very troubled childhood and I dove into the music I loved to try to cope. I even tried to learn guitar, although I have trouble following through with things (like I mentioned in my intro post) so I never really got it.

Music is such a big part of my life that I met one of my partners through a band we both like, and sharing music is a way I keep in touch with my best friend. I've had religious experiences with music. I've used music to help me through manic episodes and LSD trips. I've gotten to go to some really fun concerts of bands I love. Music helps keep me as sane as I can be.

I even finally figured out how to make some of my own, using the computer. I have four albums of electronic music, kind of synthwave/dungeonsynth vibes. I think it mostly sounds like the background music from a PS1 rpg, which makes sense considering some of my earliest memories of my gram's video games. (That was on the Sega Genesis though.)

I listen to music almost every day. I make a playlist each season and listen to it on shuffle, adding and removing stuff as the desire arises. If you wanna know what my playlist is this season, it's on my Now page. There's a lot of Ghost for the fall, they're a very autumnal band to me. (If some Christians are going to consider Halloween Satanic, I might as well listen to the most Satanic band I know during Halloween season, no?) I don't have any specific order to the playlist, because I always listen on shuffle, but it's still fun to come up with different combinations of songs I like.

In short, music has always been a big part of my life, and that's not changing anytime soon. I'm going to keep listening to and making music for as long as I can, and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it.
